Cafe Bello, Burwood (CLOSED)

Confession: This is not where I wanted to go today.

After weeks of suppressing my desire for a Zinger pie, I caved and went to KFC. However, the chicken Gods decided that today wasn’t the day and broke the oven of my local Kentucky Fried. I took this as a sign that I was never supposed to try the colonel’s latest concoction.

Since it was still relatively early in the day, I decided to go to a cafe and have some brunch.

That cafe was Cafe Bello in Burwood.

I hardly ever go out for breakfast; mainly because my breakfast usually consists of half a mug of coffee and a bottle of water. I’ve been living on liquid breakfasts ever since my high school examinations; I formed a habit of waking up obscenely early, drinking an energy drink and studying half heartedly until the sun set. That’s when I could start watching Spiderman movies because I refused to study at night.

Sorry about the tangent but the above also applies to brunch. There’s a huge difference though, brunch is usually associated with couples. You’re not going to believe this but Miley Cyrus was still known as Hannah Montanna the last time I was in a couple.

Another plot twist: I love breakfast food. Maybe I should be in a couple…

I should’ve taken a photo of the interior but Cafe Bello is quite large. Located right at the main entrance of Burwood Westfield and has a gorgeous view of Burwood Park where I guess couples and go to after their brunch and do whatever couples to do in 2013.

I started off with a mango frappe because I like saying frappe.

It tasted very authentic; the balance between fruit/flavour and ice was good so it didn’t taste like an overpriced slurpee from 7/11. There were some random bits in my glass that either originated from the skin of a mango or Elmo. I really hope it was mango.

I love salmon and I love eggs with the yolk still runny.

For those of you scoring at home, that means I really enjoyed the dish. The English muffin that supported my two loves was also nicely toasted and crisp which added another dimension to the dish.

I’m not sure if I was famished or if the servings were small but I was still quite hungry afterwards. I wish that they offered some sides for free but what was served on the plate was good enough for me. For a brief moment; I was tempted to drive to another suburb to see if they had a Zinger pie available.

I didn’t but still.
